Aramburu remains indispensable for Real Sociedad

Jon Aramburu remains central to Real Sociedad’s plans at right-back, even through the international break.

For much of the campaign he has been the only specialist in that role, with Álvaro Odriozola recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury, Iñaki Rupérez with Sanse and Aritz Elustondo gone at contract end. According to AS, Héctor Fort arrived on the penultimate day of the window to bolster options.

Aramburu has started all seven LaLiga matches, completing every minute bar matchday two at the Santiago Bernabéu, when he was withdrawn on 57 minutes after a booking and Igor Zubeldia filled in. He missed the UEFA Europa League meeting with Bournemouth through suspension.

The Venezuela international played 90 minutes in the 2-1 defeat to Japan, then started again in the 0-0 draw with South Korea. He faces Jordan on Tuesday, after which a long return will leave only a few days’ training in Zubieta before hosting Deportivo de La Coruña on Sunday 11 October at 16.15.

Fort has used the break to adapt to Pellegrino Matarazzo’s demands, but physical discomfort kept him out of last Friday’s EH Txapela against Athletic Club, when Rupérez started. The head coach has framed the youngster’s situation as an adaptation process and noted that he is making progress.

While Fort is expected to train normally with the group this week, barring surprises Aramburu is set to continue at right-back against Deportivo. He is currently on three yellow cards in LaLiga.
