The Finalissima between Argentina and Spain, scheduled for Lusail Stadium in Qatar next month, is in doubt amid the Middle East crisis and the suspension of sporting activity in the country.
The Qatar Football Association announced that all domestic tournaments are postponed until further notice. The step has alarmed FIFA and both federations, though Qatar is reluctant to give up the event with nearly 90,000 tickets already sold.
The preference is to keep the fixture within this FIFA window and outside the affected region to avoid disrupting World Cup preparations.
Hard Rock Stadium in Miami is viewed as a leading option, supported by a large Argentine community in the southern United States and its role as a venue for the next World Cup. The Miami Open occupies the stadium until 29 March, so the match would need to be played on 30 or 31.
Wembley Stadium is also in contention, having staged the 2022 Finalissima, and has Spain’s logistical approval.
Other sites under consideration include MetLife Stadium, Rome’s Stadio Olimpico and Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu. There is no official confirmation yet, and a FIFA statement is expected in the coming days to confirm the host city.
