The Argentine league on Monday suspended the ninth round, scheduled from Thursday five to Sunday eight March. The move, requested by the League and club presidents, is a protest against a complaint targeting the AFA and its president over alleged tax fraud.
The League said on X that the halt had been approved following an executive committee meeting.
Argentina’s tax authority ARCA is investigating whether the AFA unlawfully kept pension contributions from players and staff, and failed to pay taxes between March 2024 and September 2025, an amount put at about 19 billion pesos, roughly 11.7 million euros.
In a Monday statement, the AFA said it had no outstanding tax debts of the kind cited as grounds for ARCA’s complaint.
The round was due to start on the same day AFA president Claudio Tapia is summoned to give evidence to the judiciary. The federation’s treasurer and three other officials have also been called.
Separately, the AFA is under a money laundering investigation that prompted a search in December, along with several top-flight clubs including Racing, Independiente and San Lorenzo.
