Valencia and Girona are finalising a deal for Arnau Martínez, who is due to sign for five seasons once he completes a Wednesday medical, after Girona accepted a third and final bid at midday on Tuesday.
According to AS, the operation is five million fixed plus one in add-ons, with a percentage of any future sale, and Girona have already lined up Javier Boñar as his replacement.
Arnau becomes Carlos Corberán’s seventh addition after Dieng, De Haas, Guido, Sato, Maffeo and Van Oevelen, and is Valencia’s priciest signing of the summer.
He moved to the top of Corberán’s list after the Meunier move fell through. Two earlier bids were rejected, with his clause set at eight million after the drop to Segunda.
Valencia have boosted their offer using training compensation from Kang-in Lee and Ferran Torres. Justin De Haas’s ankle injury, expected to keep him out for about two months after the Celta game, also nudged the deal.
With Pablo Maffeo in on loan, Arnau can play right-back or right-sided centre-back in the back five Corberán used to start the Liga season.
Valencia plan to finalise paperwork on Wednesday and Corberán hopes to have him in Thursday training for the third Liga matchday at Deportivo in Riazor. The acceleration has also cleared Rubén Iranzo to join Real Zaragoza.
