According to Superdeporte, Valencia have reached a verbal agreement with Girona to sign Arnau Martínez. The 23-year-old plans to travel to Valencia soon, once the deal is sealed, to sign a contract until 30 June 2031, with minor details on the player’s side still to be tied up.
Valencia increased their offer on Monday afternoon. The package sits below the eight million euros release clause, combining a significant fixed sum with add-ons tied to personal and team targets.
Two figures have been central, head coach Carlos Corberán and Martínez, who stayed in contact while the move paused after Pablo Maffeo’s loan.
Corberán has pressed football CEO Ron Gourlay to address urgent squad needs, notably the absence of a defender with Martínez’s versatility. The Catalan can operate at right-back or as a right-sided centre-back.
Justin de Haas’s injury has further strained resources. The fit centre-backs are César Tárrega, Mouctar Diakhaby, the converted Pepelu and Iker Córboba.
If nothing changes, Martínez could be available for LaLiga’s matchday three on Sunday at seven thirty in the evening at Riazor against Deportivo de La Coruña. He has started and captained Girona in the first two LaLiga Hypermotion matches and is in excellent physical condition.
