Flamengo playmaker Arrascaeta arrived in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday to undergo surgery on a fractured left wrist, expressing optimism about his recovery.
According to Globo.com, he landed at Galeão International Airport in the afternoon with his arm immobilised and will be admitted on Thursday morning for tests before the operation.
The injury occurred during Uruguay’s friendly against South Korea in Seoul on Monday, when he fell, braced with his left hand and immediately felt pain in his forearm.
He left the pitch in the 32nd minute of the second half, replaced by Rodrigo Salazar. Flamengo initially reported trauma to the left forearm and sent him to a local clinic for detailed exams, later confirming a fracture.
Flamengo’s head of medical, Fernando Sassaki, will lead the procedure alongside specialist Roberto Feres. It is too soon to set a recovery timeline, which will depend on the surgery and his progress. There is pessimism over his involvement against Estudiantes in the Conmebol Libertadores semi-finals.
He will miss several matches after the FIFA window, starting with Santos at Vila Belmiro on eight October in the Campeonato Brasileiro.
