Arrascaeta underwent surgery on Thursday 1 October on his left wrist, beginning the next phase of his recovery.

The club said in a statement that he responded well to the procedure, was discharged by team doctor Luiz Augusto Macedo at Hospital Copa Star, and has returned home to rest.

The Uruguayan had a plate and screws inserted to stabilise the area. The fixation is intended to speed up calcification and limit the time his arm needs to remain immobilised.

After an initial rest period, he will start physiotherapy at CT Ninho do Urubu. At that stage, Flamengo’s medical staff will determine when he can resume light exercises to maintain conditioning.

He is ruled out of Flamengo’s matches in October. Under the most optimistic plan, the medical department are working towards a return in eight weeks.

That timeline could align with a potential Copa Libertadores final on 28 November in Uruguay.

In his absence, Leonardo Jardim is considering options including De La Cruz, Paquetá, Carrascal and Saúl Ñíguez, with Samuel Lino, Plata and Luiz Araújo also mentioned.

Flamengo visit Santos on Thursday 8 at 19:30, Brasília time, at Vila Belmiro.
