Arrascaeta has undergone surgery on his left wrist and moved to reassure Flamengo supporters with a brief update.
Sharing a hospital-bed photo on Instagram Stories, his left arm immobilised and a mate gourd in his right hand, the player said in a post that he had woken up well.
The injury occurred while playing for Uruguay against South Korea during the FIFA window, when he fell awkwardly on his left side and left the pitch in clear pain.
He returned to Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday to complete pre-operative steps, appearing in discomfort on arrival at Galeão. Early on Thursday he was admitted to a hospital in the city’s South Zone and then underwent the procedure, with a plate inserted in the wrist.
Flamengo will now monitor his recovery. In the most optimistic scenario, staff hope for a quick return that could allow him to feature if the team reach the Libertadores final at the end of November. He is out of the next fixture and will also miss the matches with Estudiantes (ARG) in the competition.
Without him, Flamengo face Santos in the Brasileirão next Thursday at 19:30 Brasília time, at Vila Belmiro.
