Arrascaeta fractures wrist and will miss Flamengo against Santos | OneFootball

Leonardo Jardim’s Flamengo will be without Giorgian de Arrascaeta against Santos after the midfielder fractured his left wrist.

Flamengo confirmed the injury after tests in South Korea. He will return to Brazil for re-evaluation before surgery. The initial recovery timeframe is about six weeks.

Arrascaeta started and scored in Uruguay’s 4-1 win over South Korea in Seoul. He fell in the second half, felt pain in his left wrist and was substituted, with scans later confirming the fracture.

He will miss the Santos match on 8 October at 19:30 at Vila Belmiro, in the 29th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.

Santos are working to have more of their squad available. Álvaro Barreal has advanced in his thigh recovery and should resume training, while Willian Arão continues rehabilitation and is expected for the run-in.

Neymar is still a doubt. He has progressed from the right thigh injury sustained against Palmeiras and has started on-pitch work. A bench role is likelier than a start if he is cleared.

He has been out since 2 September and the club are being cautious. A conservative view targeted mid to late October, though his progress has raised hopes of an earlier return.

Philippe Coutinho has trained with the group at CT Rei Pelé. He has not played since 14 February for Vasco, so is unlikely to feature against São Paulo on 2 October at Morumbis. The coming days will decide if he can be included to face Flamengo, with a debut possible if fitness allows.
