Flamengo have entered the final week before returning to action, seven days out from Santos away, with Arrascaeta set for left wrist surgery and four players still on international duty. Leonardo Jardim’s squad held a second session on Thursday after reconvening at Ninho do Urubu.
According to Coluna Do Fla, Arrascaeta is likely to miss both Libertadores semi-final legs, with a return considered only for a possible final. He fractured his left wrist on Monday in Uruguay’s 4-1 win over South Korea in Seoul, having scored and supplied an assist before slipping and landing on his arm. The operation is to be led by medical chief Fernando Sassaki alongside specialist Roberto Feres.
The squad regrouped on Wednesday 30 after four days off, having worked from Tuesday 22 to Friday 25, and are scheduled to train at 10:00, Brasília time, through Saturday three, then rest on Sunday four. Samuel Lino and Pedro remain with Brazil, Varela with Uruguay and Anthony Valencia with Ecuador, and will only rejoin after Tuesday six, leaving one or two days before travelling to the Baixada Santista.
Gonzalo Plata has shaken off a right thigh issue and is back with the group, which kept him out of Ecuador duty. Ayrton Lucas has also resumed team work under medical supervision after a right hamstring problem, with his availability dependent on his response, while Evertton Araújo remains sidelined with a serious muscle injury.
Flamengo have not played since 20 September, a 2-1 win over Red Bull Bragantino at the Maracanã, so Santos will arrive after 18 days without a game. They top the Brasileirão on 60 points, three ahead of Palmeiras on 57, unbeaten in seven with six wins.
Next up is Santos on Thursday eight at 19:30, Brasília time, at Vila Belmiro in round 29, live on Premiere pay-per-view. Then come Fluminense on Sunday 11, Estudiantes in La Plata on 15, Bahia on 18 and the second leg on 22 at the Maracanã.
