Arrascaeta will arrive in Rio de Janeiro at around 16:00, Brasília time, on Wednesday 30 after fracturing his left wrist with Uruguay in Seoul. Surgery is scheduled for early Thursday afternoon to continue treatment.

The club said in a statement that doctor Fernando Sassaki will lead the operation, with Roberto Feres also involved. Feres is an orthopaedist and trauma specialist in this type of injury.

The midfielder was hurt in Monday’s friendly between Uruguay and South Korea. He slipped without contact and put his left hand down to break his fall.

Before the incident, he had scored once and supplied an assist. Coach Diego Forlán replaced him at 32 minutes of the second half, and post-match scans confirmed the fracture.

He will be assessed again in Brazil before the procedure, and Flamengo requested his immediate return to the country. He is expected to miss both legs of the semi-final against Estudiantes, scheduled for 15 October in La Plata and 22 October at the Maracanã.
