Arrascaeta has undergone successful surgery on his left wrist after fracturing it on Uruguay duty. The club said in a statement that he will remain under observation through the afternoon, with discharge tonight if his clinical progress is good.
The injury came in Uruguay's friendly against South Korea in Seoul on Monday. After a fall he braced with his left hand, felt forearm pain and left immediately, replaced by Rodrigo Salazar on 32 minutes of the second half.
He was admitted on Thursday morning and underwent surgery from 11:00 Brasília time, lasting just over an hour.
Doctors Roberto Feres, Edson Roderjan and Fernando Sassaki, Flamengo’s head of medical, performed the procedure to realign the bone and fix a plate with screws.
Flamengo will reassess him daily with X-rays to guide his return. The injury site allows some movement to maintain fitness, but he cannot play with a brace because immobilisation from armpit to wrist is required.
The initial timetable is six to eight weeks, which could shorten with an excellent response. At six weeks he would miss Santos, Fluminense, both Estudiantes ties, Bahia, Atlético-MG, Vasco and Grêmio. At eight weeks he would also miss Athletico-PR and Palmeiras, returning only for a potential Libertadores final and the last two Brasileirão rounds.
