Arsenal have included a recall option in Ethan Nwaneri’s loan move to Borussia Dortmund.

Nwaneri completed a season-long loan move to the Bundesliga side on transfer deadline day, as the 19-year-old seeks regular first-team football. The midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at Marseille and heads back out to the continent to continue his development.

The deal is a straight loan, with no mandatory or option purchase clause included. Fabrizio Romano has reported that Arsenal have an option to recall Nwaneri in January.

It comes amid concerns over a lack of depth in attacking areas, following the departures of Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.

At his unveiling, Nwaneri said he is happy to play in any position for Dortmund, as long as he is close to goal.

“My favourite role… I think any of the four attacking positions suit me,” he said.

“The main thing is to be somewhere in the attack, with the goal close by. I like being close to the goal. I like being part of the build-up play. Whether on the wings or in the centre. I don’t think there’s one position I prefer over the others. I really enjoy playing in any of these attacking positions and look forward to it.”
