Dortmund had to persuade Arteta to sanction Nwaneri’s loan move from Arsenal

Borussia Dortmund managed to bring in a late replacement for the long-term injured Giannis Konstantelias on deadline day, signing Ethan Nwaneri on loan from Arsenal.

According to Bild, the Black and Yellows had to work hard to get the deal over the line, with Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta particularly hesitant to let the 19-year-old leave.

The Spaniard was unsure whether he might still have a use for Nwaneri himself, but ultimately sanctioned the move after the BVB management, led by sporting director Ole Book, remained in contact with Arsenal representatives “deep into the night”, according to the report.

Nwaneri could make his Dortmund debut against TSG Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
