Arsenal reignites interest in Spanish full back

Arsenal are one of the clubs that have held a long-standing interest in Ivan Fresneda, having followed the Spanish right-back since his time at Real Valladolid.

Fresneda was tipped for greatness when he first turned professional and was regarded as one of the most promising full-backs in Europe. He has since joined Sporting Club and is beginning to show his full potential, with his performances now attracting attention from leading clubs across the continent.

Sport Witness claims Arsenal have reignited their interest in Fresneda, with Barcelona also monitoring his situation.

Arsenal Renew Fresneda Interest

Arsenal’s current squad already contains several excellent defenders, but the Gunners see Fresneda as another top player who could strengthen their options at right back. He would provide competition for Ben White and Jurrien Timber, both of whom have struggled with injuries in recent seasons.

Fresneda has recently earned his first call-up to Spain’s senior squad, which has increased his standing in the transfer market. Sporting are aware of the growing interest and have accelerated talks over a new contract to protect their position.

The 22-year-old’s current deal runs until 2028 and contains an €80 million release clause. Sporting are working on an extension until 2031, which would make any future transfer even more expensive for Arsenal and their rivals.

A Difficult But Attractive Move

Playing in England would be a demanding step for Fresneda, but he has the technical quality, athleticism and confidence to adapt. He still has significant room for development, and Arsenal could offer him the opportunity to work under Mikel Arteta and compete at the highest level.

However, the competition for his signature will be intense. Barcelona are also interested, while Sporting view Fresneda as a potential future captain and are determined to keep him in Lisbon.
