Cristhian Mosquera has taken a key step in his recovery, rejoining Arsenal training in London. According to Superdeporte, the defender has been out for most of September and could be available after the international break if there are no setbacks.
He has not played since 31 August, when he left the pitch during the 1-0 win at Aston Villa. What first looked like a precaution turned into a longer absence due to a muscle problem. He then missed the next five fixtures, though he travelled to Brighton despite not making the squad.
The setback arrived during a positive start. Mosquera began the season as a starter in Arsenal’s first three competitive matches, completing 90 minutes in the Community Shield against Manchester City and the Premier League opener against Coventry, then 78 minutes at Villa before the injury.
In total he logged 258 minutes across three starts, all won, and Arsenal did not concede while he was in the XI. William Saliba’s absence had opened the door for him to partner Gabriel at centre-back after a first campaign adapting to English football.
The injury checked that momentum, but chances remain. Arsenal have recently wrestled with defensive issues and even improvised at right-back, where Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi shared minutes in the last match at Brighton. The landscape could favour him as he edges back towards selection.
