Premier League giants Arsenal recently sent scouts to watch a pair of fixtures played by La Liga outfit Elche.

As much came with a view to watching the performances put forth by the up-and-coming Rodrigo Mendoza.

Youngster Mendoza has spent the early months of the new Spanish season making building on his reputation as a future star in the making.

From his berth in the Elche engine room, the Spaniard, still just 20 years old, has lit up a number of outings with his technical excellence and nous far beyond his years.

And one such club to have had their heads turned by Mendoza’s form are Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

As revealed by market insider Fabrizio Romano, the Premier League leaders had scouts in attendance to watch a pair of Elche’s fixtures between October and November.

This came specifically to keep an eye on the Franjiverdes’ midfield sensation.

Mendoza’s contract contains a release clause set at just €20 million, making him an attractive option for clubs across the continent.

It now remains to be seen if Arsenal step up their interest by way of an official offer.
