In a recent report, Football.London has mentioned that Arsenal are set to land Mathew Ryan on a free transfer this summer. it is understood that the Gunners have decided to sign the Australian goalie permanently following his solid six-month loan spell at North London recently (via Football.London).

Ryan’s Recent Form In English Football

Ryan caught the eye during his loan spell at the English capital and deserves credit for putting in a few solid displays in goal for Mikel Arteta’s side when needed. The Plumpton-born talent participated in three matches for the London giants this term, conceding two goals and earning one clean sheet in the process.

In those three appearances, Ryan has performed well to average 1.0 clearances and 1.7 long balls per game in the second half of the recently concluded Premier League campaign. He has even been careful when distributing possession from the back based on his pass success rate of 89.4% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

The 29-year-old is more than capable of filling in as Arteta’s second-choice keeper at the Emirates Stadium next season, so it is no surprise that the Gunners are close to signing him permanently on a free transfer this summer.

Ryan boasts quick reflexes that allow him to make some important saves at the back. He is not shy of going to the ground to come to his team’s rescue and doesn’t take too many chances with his clearances.

The Australian talent has proven himself as a solid keeper in Premier League football, so he won’t have any trouble filling in as Bernd Leno’s deputy at the North London club in the coming seasons. At 29, Ryan still has plenty of football left in him, so he will be a shrewd addition to Mikel Arteta’s squad this summer.

The former Valencia custodian would benefit from sealing a permanent move to Arsenal where he might have a chance to compete for some major silverware in the years to come. The Gunners will also enjoy the presence of having someone as experienced as Ryan on their bench. All in all, the Australian’s permanent transfer will be a decent move for both the player and the London club, especially because of his availability as a free agent this summer.
