Gunners have one foot in the Carabao Cup final after a frenetic first leg but their lead is slender

Arsenal will hope to book their place in the Carabao Cup final as they host Chelsea in the semi-final second leg.

The Gunners take a one-goal advantage into the home leg after a dramatic reverse fixture at Stamford Bridge finished 3-2.

Ben White, Viktor Gyokeres and Martin Zubimendi were all on the scoresheet that night, aided somewhat by a pair of clumsy errors from Robert Sanchez, but Alejandro Garnacho’s second-half brace kept the Blues’ hopes alive.

Liam Rosenior’s men have it all to do at the Emirates if they are to keep their hopes of silverware alive.

A date with either Manchester City or Newcastle will await Tuesday’s victor in the final.

Arsenal vs Chelsea team news

Both Arsenal and Chelsea are dealing with a number of injury headaches ahead of this match.

For the Gunners, there are worrying new injuries to both Bukayo Saka and Mikel Merino. The former dropped out of the Arsenal squad to face Leeds after suffering an injury in the warm-up, and it remains to be seen whether he can feature against Chelsea.

Merino will certainly miss out, though, as he is due to undergo surgery on a suspected broken bone in his foot, with Max Dowman is the only other absentee for Arsenal.

Jamie Gittens will likely miss out for Chelsea after coming off with an injury in the first half of the Blues’ dramatic defeat of West Ham last weekend.

“Jamie unfortunately felt his hamstring,” said Rosenior of Gittens. “I don't know the extent of the injury. It's a real shame for him.”

Estevao is also due to miss out. He is on compassionate leave as he attends to a personal matter in Brazil.

Elsewhere, Tosin Adarabioyo and Dario Essugo are both sidelined, while Romeo Lavia and Levi Colwill are both long-term absentees.

Arsenal vs Chelsea prediction

Arsenal come into this match with the upper hand, but their one-goal aggregate lead is precarious and a fast start from the Blues could trigger another chaotic affair - the kind that Chelsea seem to thrive in.

While they trounced Leeds last time out, recent wobbles for Mikel Arteta’s men against Kairat and Manchester United suggest a vulnerability and shows that their impressive home form is fallible.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have come from behind to secure wins against both Napoli and West Ham in the last week. Liam Rosenior does not quite seem to have clicked tactically with this squad, but they seem more than willing to put their bodies on the line for him.

A third consecutive turnaround may prove to be too big an ask, though.

Arsenal to win, 2-1.
