Arturo Ruiz has left Real Sociedad women after Brighton triggered his release clause, departing 14 months after arriving at Zubieta. The move comes at a pivotal moment, in the middle of their Champions League tie against Chelsea. Real begin their Liga F campaign at 12.00 on Saturday in Zubieta against Logroño United, without Ruiz.
The coach said in an Instagram post that he is leaving to take on a new professional challenge. He reflected that he goes happy with what was built and achieved, and that club and team worked together each day to help Real Sociedad grow.
He added that was the reason he came. Ruiz also noted he would have liked a different farewell to team and fans, but said circumstances did not allow it.
He thanked all players and club colleagues for how well they treated him, saying they shared something spectacular that will live long in the memory. He included a message in Basque, thanking the team and the club and wishing the best for the future.
The players faced Chelsea without knowing his decision, and he received Brighton’s proposal this week. As of now, no player has posted a farewell to the coach on social media.
