AS Monaco view Leicester’s Boubakary Soumaré as potential Youssouf Fofana replacement

AS Monaco have seen their midfield options dwindle this summer. Youssouf Fofana was always expected to depart, especially given that he had just one year remaining on his deal with Les Monégasques. However, they have lost other players too. Mohamed Camara has moved to Qatar, whilst academy product Félix Lemarechal has joined Ligue 1 rivals RC Strasbourg Alsace.

The Principality club have even had to contend with interest from Premier League clubs in their new captain Denis Zakaria. Even despite the arrival of Lamine Camara for FC Metz, there is still a need to strengthen the midfield. Monaco have a long-standing interest in Leciester City’s Boubakary Soumaré (25) and it could now be reignited, according to a report from L’Équipe.

Adi Hütter wants a midfielder that has already established himself, and Soumaré, who has experience both in Ligue 1 and in the Premier League falls into that category. He is therefore an option being considered with just over one week remaining in the transfer window.
