AS Roma kick off their Europa League campaign away at Nice on Wednesday evening, meeting at the Allianz Riviera. The mood in each camp couldn’t be more different: Nice are searching for a response following a heavy Ligue 1 setback, while the Italians arrive buoyed by a pivotal derby win.
Roma have demonstrated solid form in Serie A, recording three victories in their first four outings to claim fourth place under new boss Gian Piero Gasperini. However, preparations for this fixture haven’t been ideal, with Paulo Dybala sidelined by a muscle strain picked up during the loss to Torino, ruling him out of the recent derby triumph over Lazio.
Leon Bailey, meanwhile, is still recovering from a thigh issue suffered in his debut training session and isn’t expected back until later this month.
There’s a boost for the Giallorossi, though: Mario Hermoso is back in contention after overcoming a calf problem, and Lorenzo Pellegrini – fresh from his decisive display against Lazio – looks likely to retain his spot in the lineup.
AS Roma Predicted XI: Svilar; Celik, Mancini, Ndicka; Rensch, Cristante, Kone, Angelino; Soule, Pellegrini; Ferguson
24th September, Wednesday, at 8pm BST.
