AS Roma get their Europa League campaign underway when they face off at the Allianz Riviera against OGC Nice on Wednesday.
Both sides arrive with contrasting domestic form, as the French hosts look to rebound from a heavy Ligue 1 defeat. while the Italian visitors come fresh off a crucial derby victory.
Both Moise Bombito and Mohamed-Ali Cho are nearing full fitness and may feature for Nice. There’s encouraging news around Dante’s availability as well; the Brazilian was present alongside Franck Haise at the pre-match press conference. Haise confirmed that his captain has been active in training throughout the week.
Nice also have attacking options in Terem Moffi and Jeremie Boga, who have accounted for four of the team’s goals in Ligue 1 this season. Charles Vanhoutte and Hicham Boudaoui have provided crucial support from midfield this season and will look to maintain their chemistry against Roma as well.
Haise expressed optimism about his squad’s fitness ahead of the Roma clash. “Aside from the long-term injuries to Mohamed Abdelmonem and Youssouf Ndayishimiye—both recovering from ACL surgery—everyone else has managed to train for the first time this season. They’re not all at peak condition, but the group is training together,” Haise explained.
The Giallorossi arrive with their own injury concerns under new manager Gian Piero Gasperini. Paulo Dybala is sidelined after suffering a muscle strain while taking a free-kick during the 1-0 defeat to Torino. The Argentine playmaker missed the crucial derby victory over Lazio. Leon Bailey continues his recovery from a thigh injury sustained during his first training session with the club and will not be available until late September.
However, there is positive news as Mario Hermoso has made the squad list after recovering from a calf issue. Lorenzo Pellegrini returned to the starting lineup against Lazio and might keep his place in the team after his match-winning performance in the Derby della Capitale.
Franck Haise’s men have endured a stuttering start to their Ligue 1 campaign, collecting just six points from five matches to sit 12th in the table. Their most recent outing saw them suffer a devastating 4-1 defeat to Stade Brest, despite controlling 62% of possession. The defensive frailties have been evident, with nine goals conceded in five domestic fixtures. Their European qualification came through the Europa League after a disappointing 4-0 aggregate defeat to Benfica in the Champions League third qualifying round.
Gasperini’s side has shown resilience in Serie A, winning three of their opening four matches to sit fourth in the standings. Their confidence received a significant boost with Lorenzo Pellegrini’s 38th-minute winner securing a 1-0 victory over Lazio in the Derby della Capitale. The triumph marked Roma’s third victory under the new manager, with the team demonstrating defensive solidity and tactical discipline that has become Gasperini’s trademark.

AS Roma: Svilar; Celik, Mancini, Ndicka; Rensch, Cristante, Kone, Angelino; Soule, Pellegrini; Ferguson.
