According to journalist Dean Jones, Aston Villa will consider entering the race alongside Crystal Palace for Tottenham Hotspur forward Brennan Johnson. They will do so if he becomes available in 2026.
Manager Thomas Frank has largely removed the Wales international from the starting lineup. Johnson’s future at Spurs looks uncertain as the club chases upgrades to strengthen the squad. Reports suggest that Tottenham are already looking at fresh attacking options. As a result, Johnson now looks like someone who could leave.
Villa, meanwhile, plans for 2026 and beyond. They show real interest in any deal if Spurs appear open to selling. The Midlands side currently thrives in the Premier League. They sit solidly in top-four contention and even flirt with title hopes this season.

Unai Emery’s team already scouts reinforcements for January and the summer windows. They also keep an eye out for players with Premier League experience who still have room to grow. Johnson, at 24, fits that profile well. His best years seem to be in front of him. A transfer might come at a reasonable cost. A loan move is also possible, based on recent updates. From summer 2026, only two years will remain on Johnson’s existing contract.
Villa have built a reputation for helping talented players bounce back. For example, the club previously gave Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Harvey Elliott chances to rediscover form. Johnson might soon join that group of names. However, no firm decision surrounds his Spurs stay. The club expects interest in 2026 as teams try to understand Johnson’s value.
This season, Johnson started just six Premier League matches for Tottenham. He has not scored since early in the campaign, which marks a clear drop from last season. The Welshman led the club with 18 goals then.
Overall, he has produced 27 goals and 18 assists during his time in north London. Those numbers stand out, especially since he rarely had a guaranteed starting spot during mixed spells of form.
Johnson still represents a strong fit for Aston Villa. His pace and proven scoring ability would add vital depth to their flanks. Furthermore, Emery excels at developing such talents, so Johnson could flourish and help sustain Villa’s push for major honours. He seems a smart, low-risk addition with high reward potential.
