Aston Villa have made a big call on Louie Barry's future and Birmingham City could act soon
Aston Villa are ready to sell Louie Barry this summer.
The 22-year-old impressed on loan with Stockport County during the first half of last season, scoring 15 goals and providing two assists in 23 League One outings.
This form led to the forward joining Hull City for the second period of the campaign, but a knee injury limited his impact to just four appearances.
Barry has enjoyed a strong upward trajectory over the past few years and now seems ready to make a permanent move away from Villa Park.
According to Football Insider, the Premier League outfit are ready to sell the 22-year-old alongside Leander Dendoncker and Kaine Kesler-Hayden.
Unai Emery’s side are looking to get rid of the trio before June 30 as they aim to ease their Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) concerns.
GiveMeSport reported earlier in the window that Birmingham City were monitoring the player’s situation and could now be set to make a swoop for his signature.
With Villa needing to sell as soon as possible, Chris Davies’ side could use their strong financial situation to meet their city rivals’ demands and inherit one of the EFL’s leading talents.
It was originally thought that Barry would only be allowed to leave on a temporary basis, but now Villa are willing to commission a full sale. Coventry City and West Brom are also reportedly interested in a deal for the youngster this summer.
Birmingham City’s transfer window is slowly gearing up into the massive spending spree many expected, with rumours swirling around potential deals for Demarai Gray, Kyogo Furuhashi and Lewis O’Brien.
These signings would all add certified quality to Davies’ side and help mold them further towards being a competitive Championship outfit.
A move for Barry represents more of a risk, with the 22-year-old still untested in the second-tier.
That said, there is a reason that so many clubs hold such a keen interest in securing Barry’s services for the future, and that’s due to the youngster immense potential.
Last season showed that the forward is already operating at a level higher than League One, as proved by his outstanding output for Stockport.
Injury woes didn’t allow him to acclimatise to Championship football with Hull but Birmingham could provide him with a perfect launchpad to show what he can do in the division.
It would allow Blues to add one of the country’s most exciting young talents to their ranks, at the expense of their bitter city rivals, making the deal ever sweeter.
