Aston Villa near sale of Sil Swinkels to Sheffield Wednesday | OneFootball

Aston Villa are close to selling defender Sil Swinkels to Sheffield Wednesday, with a permanent move nearing completion and a medical anticipated before the end of the week at the League One club.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 22-year-old remains well regarded by Unai Emery and the proposed deal is believed to include a matching rights clause requiring Villa to be notified and given the chance to rival any future offers.

A Vitesse Arnhem academy graduate, Swinkels joined Villa in 2020 and has made two senior appearances, most recently in a 2024 Carabao Cup win at Wycombe.

He spent last season on loan with Exeter and Chesterfield, making 24 appearances in all competitions for Chesterfield during the second half of the campaign.

Swinkels has prior League One experience from spells at Bristol Rovers and Exeter City, and has attracted interest from several EFL sides as well as clubs on the continent.
