Aston Villa are weighing up a potential move for Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey as they assess options up front this summer.
The 24-year-old has impressed in his first Premier League season under Régis Le Bris and struck a late Tyne-Wear derby winner at the weekend. “Aston Villa are looking to sign a new striker in the summer,” said former Villa scout Mick Brown, speaking to Football Insider.
“They’ve been frustrated with Watkins and the other options because they haven’t had that regular goalscorer, so they’re looking at a few options. Brian Brobbey is somebody they will have been looking at, because there’s always interest in players, strikers particularly, who are making a bit of a name for themselves.”
Villa are exploring additions up front, with Ollie Watkins still a mainstay and Tammy Abraham having joined in the winter window, yet further reinforcements remain on the agenda.
Brobbey’s mix of physicality and output has drawn notice. He has six goals and one assist from 24 Premier League appearances, with hold-up play and runs into the channels highlighted as strengths.
“He looks a handful to play against,” Brown added. “He’s strong, will back into defenders, battle them, fight them, run in behind, and he’ll score goals as well.”
