Aston Villa have announced Nathalia Arroyo as their new head coach, pending visa approval.
She is set to make her first appearance in the dugout when Villa host Chelsea on February 2.
The Spaniard has signed from Real Sociedad on a three-and-a-half-year contract. She left Sociedad at last season’s conclusion after falling to Barcelona in the final of the Copa de la Reina.
Aston Villa’s President of Football Operations, Monchi, said: “Natalia impressed us with her passion for football and approach to coaching.
“We believe Natalia has all the necessary tools to succeed at Aston Villa.”
Head of Women’s Football Lee Billiard added: “After an in-depth search, Natalia has consistently stood out in meeting our requirements.
“We are familiar with Natalia’s playing style and admire her philosophy. We look forward to working with her as we continue to build the women’s programme for success.”
Arroyo replaces Robert de Pauw, who left the club in acrimonious circumstances on December 11. Shortly after his removal, he posted a lengthy LinkedIn message accusing the club of failing to back him in the transfer market.
Villa currently sit eighth in the WSL with 10 points from 11 matches.
