Atlas have submitted a bid for Adonis Frías and are trying to hijack Santos’ proposed deal with Racing that would bring Gastón Martirena the other way. According to Diario Do Peixe, Santos have rejected the Mexican club’s purchase offer for now, preferring the right-back swap.
Frías is said to be tempted and has yet to decide. Santos want a quick answer as the Uruguayan has a flight booked to Brazil for medical tests. The club is mobilising funds to pay Monaco for Jean Lucas, lift a FIFA transfer ban and register new signings.
Prompted by former Santos coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda, Racing are keen to take Frías on a one-year loan with an option to buy, offering Martirena in return. The board had aimed to prioritise clearing wage arrears before tackling the sanction, but view this as an opportunity.
Right-back remains a need. Martirena, 26, is out of favour, while Gabriel Menino has a knee issue and Igor Vinicius is not fully over a back problem but has made himself available. Under-20 player Davizinho has been covering the role.
Santos are trying to settle around R$ 12,000 owed to Monaco. While a solution is sought, Frías is expected to train at CT Rei Pelé and paperwork will be exchanged.
If the ban is lifted, Martirena would be registered immediately. The window closes on 20 September.
Frías, 28, joined Santos in September last year and is under contract until December 2028. He has two goals in 24 games this year and apologised after an error in the 4-2 win over UCV on 28 July.
