Globo Esporte reports that club president Mario Celso Petraglia has halted Kevin Viveros’ contract renewal at Athletico Paranaense, placing the Sunderland and Aston Villa target’s future back in doubt.

The 26-year-old has scored 19 goals in 32 appearances this season, and his form earned a first senior Colombia cap. Both clubs have been linked with the forward.

In mid-September, there had been suggestions of a verbal agreement to extend in Curitiba. The report says the player and club had settled financial terms before Petraglia stepped in, believing extra spend was unnecessary at this stage.

Viveros is contracted until July 2027, with an automatic extension clause to July 2028.

There is an expectation he could be sold in January, with any fee likely to exceed 3.4 million. Athletico would prefer to keep him until then, though sizeable offers from Europe and beyond could make that difficult, and Saudi Arabian and Russian clubs are also monitoring his situation.
