Atlético de Madrid seek sales after €100 million spend to finish squad | OneFootball

Atlético de Madrid have spent over €100 million on Alejandro Grimaldo, Morten Hjulmand and Kang In Lee, yet further signings hinge on sales. According to La Colina De Nervion, they still want a defender and an attacking player while balancing a capital increase.

Published figures put the trio at about €108 million, €23m for Grimaldo, €45m for Hjulmand and €40m for Kang In Lee. Buying before a major sale does not mean another €100 million is ring-fenced for reinforcements.

Grimaldo joined from Bayer Leverkusen to 2030. Hjulmand arrived from Sporting de Portugal and Kang In Lee from Paris Saint-Germain, both until 2031.

The General Shareholders’ Meeting approved in March a capital increase of up to €100 million. A €101,068,366 operation is set for an extraordinary meeting on 7 and 8 August. Miguel Ángel Gil Marín said funds also cover the Ciudad del Deporte.

Antoine Griezmann and Clément Lenglet have eased the wage bill with their exits, but neither alone funds the last two additions. Griezmann agreed to join Orlando City, while Lenglet moved to Benfica.

Flamengo are working on Thiago Almada’s signing, a leading route to raise income in Madrid. Talks have explored a split-rights formula, though no final agreement is in place. An Almada sale would be easier to absorb than losing a defender.

José María Giménez, Nahuel Molina and Matteo Ruggeri are names Atlético could study if strong offers arrive. An attacking exit can open space, a defensive one can create two needs.
