Atletico Madrid agrees to split David’s salary to push through loan move | OneFootball

Juventus and Atletico Madrid have agreed a deal for Jonathan David to join the Spanish club on loan for the rest of this season.

The Canadian striker did not perform well during his first season at Juventus, and the Bianconeri have been pushing for him to leave during this transfer window because they do not believe he suits their manager’s style of play.

Juventus want to replace David and had been concerned that they could be forced to keep him, which would have prevented them from bringing in another striker during the transfer window.

David remains confident that he can succeed at the club, but Juventus do not share that belief. The Bianconeri therefore did everything possible to find him a new home and allow them to move forward with their plans for the squad.

Atletico agree David loan

According to Tuttojuve, Atletico will not cover David’s entire salary during his loan spell. The Spanish club will pay only a portion of his wages, with Juventus covering the remainder.

David is the highest earner on the Juventus books, making the agreement an important one for the Bianconeri. Although Juventus will continue paying part of his salary, the arrangement still provides them with some relief from his wages.

The loan move also gives David an opportunity to rebuild his confidence and demonstrate the qualities that convinced Juventus to sign him in the first place. Atletico will now hope he can contribute during the remainder of the season.

Juventus create wage space

The Bianconeri are willing to accept the financial arrangement because the move allows them to stop paying David’s full salary. That gives the club more room within their wage budget as they look to add players to their squad.

Juventus had been working to ensure that David’s departure did not leave them unable to strengthen the attack. With the Canadian now set to join Atletico on loan, the club can turn their attention towards finding his replacement.

The agreement represents an important step for both sides. Juventus can move forward with their squad plans, while David gets the chance to start again at Atletico Madrid.

The Bianconeri will still cover part of his wages, but they believe the arrangement is worthwhile because it creates space for further additions. Their priority will now be completing the moves required to strengthen the squad before the transfer window closes.
