Atlético Madrid have ruled out talks with Barcelona over Julian Alvarez after the forward missed training again on Thursday. The club said in a statement it will not enter negotiations over his transfer.
No negotiations have taken place with Barcelona, and board members unanimously backed the stance. Atlético remain open to market dealings conducted ethically and professionally between clubs, but this does not extend to Barcelona in Alvarez’s case. Barcelona are the side Alvarez wants to join.
The position follows Barcelona president Joan Laporta maintaining on Wednesday an offer valued at €100 million for the Argentina striker.
Barcelona are accused of breaching FIFA rules by dealing directly with the player and his representatives during last season, and Atlético have lodged a complaint.
The club are convinced Alvarez will accept the decision and focus on helping the team reach its objectives. Even so, other clubs, including Arsenal, could still move before the window shuts.
