Atlético captain Koke sends heartfelt farewell message to departing teammate | OneFootball

Atlético Madrid star Koke has taken to social media on Wednesday, to send an emotional goodbye message the way of José María Giménez. This of course comes fresh off the defender securing a move away from Spain’s capital.

Following months of rampant speculation, Uruguayan international Giménez secured a new home for himself on transfer deadline day on Tuesday.

The 31-year-old put pen to paper on terms with Deportivo La Coruña, the cherry on top of an impressive market all told at the Estadio Riazor.

This brought to a close a spell of 13 successive years for Giménez as an Atlético player, leaving behind him a lasting legacy featuring a pair of La Liga titles, the Europa League, Spanish Super Cup and more.

Amongst those first to acknowledge his now-former teammate’s efforts whilst a Rojiblanco, in turn, was the aforementioned Koke.

Taking to his official social media accounts on Wednesday, Atléti icon and captain Koke unveiled the following heartfelt post for Giménez:

‘Brother, after so many years sharing the locker room, it’s hard to find the words to say goodbye to you. We’ve grown together. We’ve won, lost, suffered, and celebrated. And through all this time, you’ve always been the same, a teammate who makes a team better and a person who leaves a mark.

‘I’ll hold onto everything we’ve lived through, but above all, the pride of having been able to spend so many years defending this badge alongside you. You’re leaving Atleti, but everything you’ve given to this club stays here forever. Good luck in your new chapter.’
