One interested party in a Sheffield Wednesday takeover had some outrageous plans in mind
An unsuccessful party interested in taking over Sheffield Wednesday reportedly had plans for a shock merger if they had won out.
The Owls have been on the lookout for a new owner after Dejphon Chansiri was forced to place them into administration after being unable to satisfy a £1m HMRC bill in late October.
Since then, a number of interested parties came forward and declared their desire to take over Wednesday, including the likes of Mike Ashley and John McEvoy. That list was whittled down to 11 names, with bids having already been submitted at this moment in time.
December 5 has been set as the date when an announcement could be made about who the Owls’ next owner will be, which will finally allow them to forget about the past under Chansiri and begin moving forward.
Whilst the takeover process has since moved much further along, it has been revealed that one interested party had quite amusing plans for Wednesday if they had become owners.

Whilst it isn’t known who exactly will become the Owls’ next owner and what their plans for the club may be, one party in particular was supposedly ruled out quite quickly.
According to the Daily Mail, one unlikely offer that came in for Wednesday was from an unnamed group, which wished to pursue a merger with city rivals Sheffield United if successful - which would likely have gone down like a lead balloon.
It is stated that the offer will not be progressing, which doesn’t come as much of a surprise given the plans, but they are plenty of serious interest and prospective bids on the table in a bid to resuscitate the Owls.
Wednesday fans have continued to back their club immensely following Chansiri’s exit, with it also included within the report that matchday revenues among the highest in the club’s history were recorded during their Steel City derby defeat.

Given how much torment and distress Chansiri put Wednesday fans through during his time as owner, the main thing supporters want is a level-headed chief who simply wants to achieve success.
This means that any plans for a merger with their arch-rivals would’ve been laughed out of Hillsborough immediately, with there being absolutely no consideration about any plan remotely connected to such a notion.
The Owls’ fans will be relieved to know that the party that made that suggestion is no longer part of the process and will hope that whoever does end up winning out has much more realistic plans.
In the unthinkable scenario that the party with a merger in mind won out, it isn’t likely that United would’ve been eager to accept as well - it seems like the brainchild of an individual or party with ideas way beyond their own station, and it would have been likely thrown out of consideration by administrators Begbies Traynor.
