Barcelona and Real Madrid are vying to sign Racing de Santander prospect Sergio Martinez, with both targeting him for their B teams.
Diario AS reports that both clubs have made offers to Racing de Santander. The preferred arrangement is a loan with an option to buy, though a permanent move is also on the table if required.
Barcelona showed interest earlier in the month while competing with Villarreal. Madrid have likewise been working to strengthen their youth categories in recent months.
Martinez, 18, has lost prominence at the Segunda side in recent weeks. A midfielder who can operate as a six, eight or 10, his versatility is a key draw for both clubs.
With less than 48 hours left of the winter window, the first to reach an agreement with Racing would gain an advantage, though talks with the player could prove decisive.
Where Martinez ends up by Monday night remains unclear. Castilla play above Barca Atletic, which could favour Real Madrid, although Barcelona’s record of promoting youngsters to the first team could appeal.
