FC Barcelona have not made many signings in the transfer market in recent seasons but when they have, more often than not, they have gotten it right. One such excellent addition they made to the squad back in 2022 was Jules Kounde.

Kounde has been one of Hansi Flick’s most relied-on players this season, which is exactly why the latest development on his future comes as a surprise. Reputed journalist speaking on Radio MARCA has claimed that the Catalan club don’t see the Frenchman as an untouchable asset and would be willing to listen to offers for him this summer.

From a Barcelona perspective, the surprising part is not just the transfer angle. It is that this concerns a player Flick has clearly trusted again and again whenever fit. Kounde has been a fixture under the German, mostly at right-back, and his absence in recent games has only made that more obvious.

The numbers back that up. Across all competitions in 2025-26, Kounde has made 33 appearances for Barcelona and logged 2,607 minutes, with 25 appearances and 1,903 minutes coming in La Liga plus eight Champions League matches and 704 minutes there. He has also contributed three assists in the league and one in Europe.

That workload is enough to justify calling him one of Flick’s most trusted players. He leads Barcelona in Champions League minutes this season, and he has also been close to triggering another appearance-based payment clause in his transfer deal because he has featured so heavily.

There is still an important distinction, though. Being available for the right price is not the same as Barcelona actively wanting to sell him. Kounde remains under contract until 2030 but should a sizeable transfer fee come along, the Catalan club might be open to consider.

Ideally, Barcelona shouldn’t be parting ways with Kounde but let’s wait and see what Deco & co. decide to do.
