FC Barcelona have kept six clean sheets in their last seven games, and much of the credit goes to one man: Joan Garcia. The Spanish goalkeeper has impressed one and all with his performances in recent weeks.

The ex-Espanyol shot-stopper moved to Barcelona in the summer and effectively ended incumbent club captain Marc-Andre Ter Stegen’s reign as the number one between the posts. The German has played just a solitary game for the club this season.

For a few weeks now, a loan move has been in the works for the veteran, with Girona said to be interested in securing his services. However, the player’s astronomical wages have proved a stumbling block to any exit so far.

According to journalist Nil Sola, there is now a three-way agreement between Barcelona, Girona, and Ter Stegen over a potential exit in the coming days. The 33-year-old has agreed to forgo a portion of his wages to make the transfer happen.

Ter Stegen is willing to accept what Girona are prepared to offer to move across the Catalan city and continue his career. In terms of continuity, he gets to live where he currently does and still play regular football at a different club.

The emergence of Joan Garcia has been incredible, and he is performing at a level that makes it almost impossible for anyone to displace him. Ter Stegen, meanwhile, is finally fit and needs regular minutes to earn a World Cup berth with Germany.

Thus, this transfer to Girona is a win-win for all parties involved, and let us hope the deal goes through without any hiccups in the coming days.
