Barcelona captain Ter Stegen set to fly to Amsterdam imminently to finalise Ajax loan move | OneFootball

According to Fabrizio Romano, Marc-Andre ter Stegen is expected to leave Barcelona’s pre-season training camp in England imminently to complete his loan move to Ajax, bringing one of the club’s longest-running summer transfer stories to a close.

The German goalkeeper will travel to Amsterdam in the coming hours to finalise the deal after Barcelona and Ajax resolved the remaining details of the agreement on Thursday.

While neither club has officially announced the move yet, the transfer is now effectively complete.

The veteran Germany international will land in Amsterdam today. Tomorrow, on Saturday, he will undergo his medicals before the signing and the announcement are completed.

Agreement finally reached

Negotiations gathered momentum earlier this week, with the final obstacles concerning the terms of Ter Stegen’s departure now resolved.

The 34-year-old had already agreed personal terms with Ajax several weeks ago, but discussions between the two clubs delayed the transfer. In addition, there were some tax-related issues that needed to be resolved.

With those issues now settled, Ter Stegen is set to sign and begin a new chapter in the Netherlands.

Committed during pre-season

Despite ongoing speculation about his future throughout the summer, Ter Stegen remained fully committed to Barcelona during pre-season.

The German international trained normally under Hansi Flick from the first day of preparations, featured in the friendly against Europa, and travelled with the squad to England earlier this week while negotiations continued behind the scenes.

Fresh Start After Injury-Plagued Season

Ter Stegen heads to Ajax looking to rebuild after an extremely difficult campaign disrupted by two serious injuries that severely limited his playing time.

The loan offers him the opportunity to become a regular starter again and regain the consistency that established him among Europe’s elite goalkeepers.

The move will also reunite Ter Stegen with Míchel.

The Spanish coach had already signed the goalkeeper to Girona on loan last January, but a serious injury prevented that move from becoming a success.

Now, the pair will work together in Amsterdam, hoping the change of scenery allows Ter Stegen to put his injury setbacks behind him and rediscover his best form.
