Pau Cubarsi has offered a glimpse into the personality behind one of Barcelona’s most established young defenders, revealing which Spain teammate brings out his playful side and explaining what he ultimately wants to achieve at club level.
Despite his rapid rise with Barcelona and Spain, Cubarsi insists that football remains something he uses to enjoy himself and switch off from the pressure surrounding his career.
When asked about life inside the Spain camp, Cubarsi picked out a familiar face from Barcelona.
“The one I laugh with the most is Eric Garcia, and the one who gets on my nerves the most is Marc Cucurella because he’s very intense,” he said (h/t Barça Buzz).
“However, I don’t hold a grudge against anyone. I’m a quiet guy who just enjoys himself.”

Eric Garcia’s presence gives Cubarsi a teammate he already knows well from Barcelona, while Cucurella, who now plays for Real Madrid, provides a more entertaining contrast within the national-team environment.
For all the attention surrounding his development, Cubarsi has no doubts about what he wants to accomplish with Barcelona.
“I have fun playing football, I enjoy it and disconnect. Behind everything, my goal is clear: my dream is to win the Champions League with Barça.”
When it comes to individual awards, Cubarsi admits that it is quite difficult for defenders to be recognised.
“It’s harder for defenders to get recognition… we’re less in the spotlight,” he noted in an interview with Reuters.

That ambition comes as Cubarsi continues to develop into an important part of Barcelona’s defence.
His rise has also changed life away from football. Growing up in Estanyol gave him a quieter upbringing before his career took him into the spotlight at Barcelona.
“The best thing about growing up in a village like Estanyol is that there are very few people, which makes you grow up differently.
“When I walk around Barcelona, I’d like to go more unnoticed and do the things a 19-year-old would do,” he concluded.
