In a major development, according to Mundo Deportivo, negotiations between Barcelona and Frenkie de Jong and his new agent are progressing well, with both parties already aligned on several aspects of a new contract.
The Dutchman’s current contract with the Catalans expires at the end of the season, and they have made it a top priority to renew it at the earliest possible.
As per the report, Barcelona have offered Frenkie three more seasons on top of his current contract, meaning he will extend until 2029.
The proposed salary figures for those three years are lower than his current wages, although this year’s payments are unusually high due to deferred salary agreements made during COVID.
De Jong, for his part, is understood to be satisfied with the amounts offered and is fully committed to continuing, given his strong bond with the club, the coach, and his teammates.

Barça share the same view, with president Joan Laporta, sporting director Deco, and coach Hansi Flick all supporting the extension, as he is seen as a key figure in the manager’s system.
A significant point in the agreement, which is now being finalised with only minor details such as performance-related variables still pending, is that it respects De Jong’s current salary for this season.
The 28-year-old Dutchman’s updated contract and adjusted wages would come into effect from 2026 onwards.
Barcelona have been intent on renewing De Jong’s deal for months, but negotiations were delayed after the Dutchman changed representatives.
Once he appointed Sebastien Ledure as his new agent, the process resumed. Deco has since met him on several occasions, and both sides have moved closer to an agreement.
