FC Barcelona have not started the 2025/26 season as they did last year. Injuries and poor form have prevented Hansi Flick’s team from enjoying the same dominance, and they even lost the first Clasico of the La Liga season.

Among those whose performances have nosedived this campaign, none is more notable than Jules Kounde. The Frenchman, one of the best right-backs on the planet last year, has looked far off it since the beginning of this season.

Unfortunately for Flick, having loaned Hector Fort out, he has boxed himself into starting Kounde every game. According to Fichajes, the German manager has asked for reinforcements in January, and Barcelona have identified Crystal Palace defender Daniel Munoz as a potential candidate.

The Colombian wing-back has been excellent over the past 18 months for the Eagles. He is strong going forward, holds his own defensively and is often seen chipping in with goals and assists for Oliver Glasner’s team.

Although he has rarely operated as a conventional right-back for Palace, Munoz is the kind of alternative Barcelona need for Kounde. He offers what the Frenchman does not, and the profiles complement each other well.

The concern, though, is whether Barcelona will be able to afford a move for Munoz. They are financially strapped and not yet back to the 1:1 rule, making registrations close to impossible. Let us wait and see how a potential move for the 29-year-old plays out.
