Barcelona hosted their first-ever training session at the Spotify Camp Nou post-renovation earlier today and it was a memorable day for players and fans alike.
For many of the players on the team, especially the younger crop, it was their first-ever session at the venue.
While it may well not have been an official game, returning to the stadium after a long wait made it a special occasion.
Similarly, it was an exciting day for all the 23,000 fans who flocked to the stands to get a glimpse of Hansi Flick and Co. at the venue after the renovation works.
While the occasion at the Spotify Camp Nou was indeed one of jubilation and celebration, there was some collateral damage caused by the reopening, which can only be described as unavoidable.
🚨 Three VIP seats were broken at the Spotify Camp Nou today because some fans were standing on them.–
On just the first day when the stadium was allowed to open for fans to return, three VIP seats at the venue were broken after some enthusiastic supporters stood on them to get a better view of the events.
The excitement from the fans’ perspective is understandable, but causing damage to the stadium’s infrastructure, that too just on the day of its reopening, is unfortunate.
As it stands, Barcelona have the license to host games at the historic stadium with 23,000 fans in the stands.
Joan Laporta and Co., however, prefer to wait until they receive the second occupancy license which will expand the capacity to 45,000.
In either case, a complete return to the stadium for official games is just around the corner, and the team will look forward to playing at the venue with 45,000 voices cheering them on.
