With the summer transfer window now closed, Barcelona’s sporting department, led by director Deco, has turned its focus to contract renewals deemed a priority – most notably those of Frenkie de Jong and Eric Garcia.
Both players have contracts expiring in 2026, and the Catalans are eager to renew their deals at the earliest possible.
Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelonaa have recently intensified contacts with De Jong’s entourage to press ahead with his contract extension.
Talks with the 28-year-old midfielder, one of the club captains, have taken place in recent weeks, though an agreement has not yet been reached despite goodwill on both sides.
Indeed, both the club and the player have repeatedly expressed their intention to continue together, with talks expected to accelerate in the coming days.

The delay has been linked to De Jong’s protracted split from his former agent Ali Dursun. That process proved more complicated than expected, slowing down talks until his new representative could step in.
Recent conversations between the two parties have focused on contract length and financial terms. Currently, De Jong earns a salary that Barça expect him to reduce in order to sign an extension.
The report states that Barcelona’s offer for De Jong is for an extension of two years, keeping him tied until June 2028, with an option to extend until 2029, albeit under lower financial conditions.
Barcelona remain calm about the situation, confident in the Netherlands international’s willingness to continue at the club, given he is a key player under Hansi Flick.
