Barcelona make fresh proposal to unblock Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s Ajax loan | OneFootball

FC Barcelona have taken a new step in an attempt to finally complete Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s delayed loan move to Ajax.

The operation had appeared almost done around 10 days ago, but tax-related complications surrounding the goalkeeper’s salary arrangement prevented final approval.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barca have now presented Ter Stegen with a counterproposal designed to resolve those fiscal issues, and the German is reportedly looking favourably on the new formula.

The Dutch club are not expected to cover even €2 million of Ter Stegen’s salary during the loan.

Barcelona will therefore continue paying the majority of his wages, although the exact amount will vary depending on how much the goalkeeper plays.

Ajax insisted on that structure after seeing what happened with Girona last season, when the Catalan club paid their full agreed share despite Ter Stegen featuring only twice because of injury.

That financial detail has made an already complicated three-way operation even harder to complete.

Barca had previously maintained that the remaining issue was for the player to resolve, but with the delay becoming increasingly damaging, the club have now intervened directly by adjusting the figures.

Ajax patience is running out

The biggest concern for Barcelona is that Ajax are no longer prepared to wait indefinitely.

The Dutch club believed the agreement had already been settled and have reportedly struggled to understand why the paperwork has taken so long.

They are still open to completing the loan, but they are also considering the possibility that the operation could collapse.

From Barca’s perspective, that makes the latest proposal especially important.

Ter Stegen’s exit remains part of the club’s squad planning, and a failed deal would leave Hansi Flick with another unresolved situation while Ajax search for alternatives.

The next important deadline could come on July 31, when Ajax would need to register players for the next round of Conference League qualifying if they progress.

For now, there is finally movement again.

The numbers are not ideal for Barcelona, but completing the loan would still provide sporting clarity and at least some salary relief. The priority now is to make sure this latest attempt succeeds before Ajax decide they have waited long enough.
