Barcelona midfielder injured on international duty, leaves Spain camp to undergo medical tests

One of the main reasons for the last two defeats that FC Barcelona have faced is the absence of some of the key players for the Blaugrana team, as all of Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Fermin Lopez, Joan Garcia, Gavi, etc., were unable to play in either one or both of these games.

The attacking midfield position has been suffering from these absences to a relatively higher extent, as three players for this position, Gavi, Fermin Lopez, and Raphinha, have all been absent.

Now, things seem to be worsening even further for Hansi Flick in regards to this position, as SPORT reports that another Barcelona attacking midfielder, Dani Olmo, has picked up an injury while on duty with the Spanish national team.

The 27-year-old midfielder from was forced to abandon Spain’s final training session before their clash against Georgia after feeling discomfort in his calf. He will now return to Barcelona to undergo medical tests and determine the extent of the issue.

Spain coach Luis de la Fuente confirmed in his press conference that Olmo left the session early due to this problem:

“Dani arrived feeling some fatigue and discomfort. He trained for 15 minutes and then went for some tests. We’ll provide updates later.”

Olmo will miss Spain’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Bulgaria, joining Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams on the list of attacking absences for La Roja.

“I dislike seeing any player injured; it’s the bad side of football. We’ll see what happens. I have a special affection for Dani because of how long I’ve worked with him. Whether he plays for one club or another, these are football circumstances. I wish none of them got injured — neither here nor with their clubs.”

Barcelona face a demanding schedule immediately after the international break, with a league fixture against Girona at Montjuic on October 18, followed by a Champions League tie against Olympiacos on October 21, and then El Clásico at the Santiago Bernabéu on October 26.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Olmo’s condition, Barcelona will be hoping that the injury proves to be minor and that the Spanish midfielder can return to action soon, especially at a time when the team can hardly afford any more setbacks.
