Barcelona teenage prodigy Pedro Fernandez ‘Dro’ is on the verge of becoming the next breakout star from La Masia.

The 17-year-old attacking midfielder was part of the first-team pre-season, where he made a big impression on Hansi Flick and his coaching staff, even scoring on his unofficial debut vs Vissel Kobe.

Since the start of the season, Dro has remained in the first-team dynamics, featuring in the matchday squad for three of the four La Liga games – missing the Valencia clash due to a knock.

Barcelona working on Dro’s contract renewal

There are high expectations on Dro within the club, and as such, Barcelona have already begun working on his contract renewal, reports Juli Claramunt of Jijantes FC.

Indeed, Barcelona director Deco met with Dro’s agent, Ivan de la Pena, on Monday to begin negotiations over a new contract for the La Masia prodigy.

Dro’s current contract with the Catalan giants runs until the summer of 2027.

He will be turning 18 years old in January 2026, at which point Barcelona can hand him a long-term contract, much like they did with Lamine Yamal. And that appears to be the plan for the homegrown talent.

While the sporting department continues working on his contract renewal, the Barcelona coaching staff have put Dro on a special training programme to help build muscle and improve his strength and physicality.

It is clear that Barça have grand plans for Dro and the first steps have been taken to secure his long-term future at the club.
