Barcelona outcast will not leave in January amid Atletico Madrid interest

Pedri’s injury and Dro’s unexpected departure from Barcelona have suddenly placed the team in a position of counting their midfield options, for they are suddenly short of quality names in the department.

With even Gavi still considerably away from making a full return to the dynamics, Hansi Flick now sees Marc Bernal and Marc Casado as the right candidates to take over some of the responsibility in the department.

Both players have been linked with departures in recent weeks, but the new situation is expected to see them stay.

While Bernal is expected to reject the idea of leaving on loan, Casado has been on the radar of Atletico Madrid but is not open to leaving the club.

Casado’s agent clarifies the issue

As relayed by SPORT in a recent update, Casado’s agent Jorge Mendes has been approached by Atletico Madrid to help make the operation feasible.

After all, they are looking for an emergency midfield signing after selling several players in the department this month.

The superagent himself, however, has made it clear that his client is not considering a departure at the moment and that the matter can be reopened in the summer. All signs point to him staying in Catalonia at least until the end of the season.

Casado has endured a complicated season so far at Barcelona and is not enjoying half the prominence he had last season.

While a part of the reason is his subpar displays when given the chance, Eric Garcia’s rise is another equally contributing factor.

Manchester United and Atletico Madrid have both registered interest in his signing, and the coming summer transfer window could thus see him look for a new club if his situation does not change.

As it stands, however, the player continues to back himself to come good and star for his dream club.
