The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona are ready to reward another member of the club’s outstanding crop of young stars with a new contract.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Fermín López as the player in question.

Fermín, for his part, is of course fresh off something of a breakout campaign in Catalunya’s capital.

Afforded an opportunity to impress by since-departed manager Xavi, the 21-year-old grasped his chance with both hands, on his way to 42 appearances across all competitions.

Add to this an impressive 11 goals from his berth in the middle of the park, and Fermín is already beginning to look like a player who could carve out a long-term future for himself at the Camp Nou.

In turn, it should come as little surprise to hear of those behind the scenes at Barcelona preparing to offer up fresh terms to the Euro 2024 winner.

As per a report from Sport:

‘Contacts between the parties have already begun, although the short-term is the key in the summer and the club’s priority today is to finish putting together the best possible squad for Hansi Flick. Afterwards, it will be time to speed up other aspects, such as the renewal of Fermín.’
