It is no secret that Barcelona are on the hunt for defensive reinforcements, either in the ongoing January transfer window or in the coming summer.
The club are determined to find replacements for Andreas Christensen and Inigo Martinez. But thanks to the sustained economic problems, the club are ideally looking for cost-effective options.
That is perhaps why Barcelona have long been linked with a move for Marc Guehi. The Crystal Palace defender’s contract at Selhurst Park expires at the end of the season, making him a potential free agent.
However, in a major development, it appears Barcelona have ruled out a move for Marc Guehi in the summer.
This is according to journalist Ben Jacobs, who confirms that Barcelona indeed had a meeting with Guehi’s agent. But the club have decided not to progress talks further.

This comes in the midst of intense competition surrounding the signing of Guehi, who has been courted by Manchester City, Liverpool and Real Madrid, among others.
Crystal Palace, to that end, are reportedly open to selling Guehi in the January transfer window, but the Eagles are holding out for a hefty price tag.
In any case, it appears Barcelona are not in a position to compete with these European giants financially and have thus decided to abandon the pursuit of Guehi.
The Catalans remain keen on other defensive targets, including Borussia Dortmund superstar Nico Schlotterbeck, while Argentina’s Marcos Senesi has also emerged as an option for the Blaugrana.
Senesi, in particular, can be an interesting choice as the defender also becomes a free agent in the summer and could be available for free.
